Toxic Home = Toxic FAMILY!!

Toxic Home = Toxic FAMILY!!!

As a human being…you are created for PERFECT FUNCTION.  I know…I’ll give you a second to wipe the shocked look off of your face and to pick your jaw off of the floor.  But it’s true.  The Creator did not make you for sickness and disease.  The problem is that we have created a culture of STRESS…and we push ourselves away from that perfect function by putting ourselves (or staying in) situations of stress that move us out of health and into sickness.

One of the biggest stressors that we come into contact with on a daily basis that will cause the function in our bodies to go down is TOXINS.

The #1 place that we can make a positive impact on our families and the health of our kids is in getting toxic chemicals out of the HOME.  In the average American family, you come into contact with dozens of harmful chemicals before you ever get dressed for your day.  If we can find better, healthier alternatives then we can start to change the downward spiral most families’ health is headed in.

I think it is human nature to change things like diet first.  To look at toxins in food.  WHICH I am pumped about if you are doing that and if you are making strides in your family’s dietary choices.  Kudos to you on that.  But it’s common for families to let the things go inside the home because it’s what you’re used to…

The things that you’re cleaning the house with are some of the most toxic things your family comes in contact with and something the are exposed to the most.  So typically at home what ends up happening is everyone’s walking around barefoot or everyone’s rolling around on the carpet, whatever the case may be, even if you’ve got  hardwood floors. But the toxins and the things that you are cleaning the house with will soak up through the skin or they’re going to breathe it in the air and you’re going to get those into your body.

Whatever you touch on your skin is going to get through into the body. It’s part of what happens with the skin. So the thing that’s important is in taking stock of all of the different cleaners that you have in your home and having the healthiest options that you possibly can. That’s a HUGE first step. What good is it if you’re eating really healthy, switched your diet,  eating all this organic stuff, and using healthy products and supplements and things like that if you’re going to use toxic chemicals to clean your house with and you’re going to be getting toxins that way? That makes NO SENSE!

Remember, there’re only two things that are going to kick your body away from health, two things. Ready?

#1: TOXINS

Getting things inside the body that it doesn’t need (smoking, sugar, artificial sweeteners, plastics…etc)

#2:  DEFICIENCIES

Not getting things that the body needs to survive and function. (Calcium, Water, Air, Vit D, Omega 3 fatty acids)

So you’re either deficient in something that’s healthy or in this instance if you’re using a lot of the normal cleaners like the typical cleaners you’d get from the store there are toxins and tons of chemicals in those and that toxic load will push your body away from health and it has to adapt.

Now one thing that people have said to me is, “Well, we use blah, blah, blah cleaner or we use bleach or we use Fabreeze or whatever and it has never caused any problems with our family.” Well….. that you know of. Everyone responds differently. So I can take five people or I can take however many and I can put them in a room and I can use a toxic cleaner in there. One of them is going to start exhibiting one symptom. These three over here are going to have a totally different symptom. One of them might not exhibit symptoms at all, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change the way the body functions. Make sense??

Hold up, hold up. I got to drop a mic on that. Oh, wait a minute, you mean that you don’t have to have a symptom to have a change, even a negative change the body?!?  Oh, man, it’s true. You don’t have to have an outward symptom of a change going on in the body that you don’t want. So just because you’re not getting these major symptoms in the body and it’s not affecting you outwardly, it doesn’t mean it’s not affecting you inwardly. So make sure to keep that mind.

Alright, so let me give you my top seven picks (there’re a lot more chemicals than this out there so don’t think that these are the only seven chemicals and toxins that are found in household cleaners), in common household cleaners. Seven common toxins that are in household cleaners and other things that you use to clean your dishes with or whatever else it is….

#1: Fragrances

Alright, so let’s talk about fragrances real quick because this one’s big and then I’m going to give you a couple of different categories to look into your home to make sure that these products are really healthy, then I’m going to give you a good replacement that’s a healthy replacement, that’s the best one on the market by far in our opinion that we use every single day.

Fragrances is a … it’s kind of a catch-all label for toxins that companies don’t have to explain to you. Kind of like “natural flavoring” when they use that label on foods. What is natural flavoring? Well, maybe that might be orange extract but it also might be MSG or it might be aspartame, okay? Because if it says natural flavoring they don’t have to tell you what it is and they can put a lot of things that get linked into that label. Fragrance is the exact same thing.

So if it says fragrances on the label then it’s toxic, for sure. Fragrances on the label means it has toxins. So that’s a big thing that you’ve got to look at on there and you got to learn to read labels. Same thing on serving sizes and stuff with food.

#2: Pthalates

While phthalates is a huge class of chemicals and nowhere near every chemical in the class has been studied, several have been shown to have negative health impacts: butyl benzyl phthalate (BBzP), dibutyl phthalate (DnBP), di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), di-butyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), diisononyl phthalate (DiNP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP), dipentyl phthalate (DPP), di-isobutyl phthalate (DiBP), di-isononyl phthalate (DiNP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP), di-isohexyl phthalate, dicyclohexyl phthalate (DcHP), and di-isoheptyl phthalate.

#3: Petroleum Byproducts

Petroleum products commonly will get stored in our fat tissue and cause hormone disruption.

#4: Formaldehyde

YIKES!  This is in things I am letting my kids crawl around on?!?  Yep.

#5: Parabens

A very popular toxin found in make-up as well, but Parabens are in your cleaners and have been documented to cause a host of health issues.

#6: Triclosan

Has been linked to hormone disruption, endocrine disruption, and it’s been linked to superbugs because it is an antibacterial that they use in a lot of these cleaners along with hand sanitizers.

#7: Heavy Metals

Mercury, lead and other heavy metals have been found in and detected in cleaners.  These elements can cross the blood/brain barrier and directly affect and disrupt your neurological function.  Not good.

Alright, so let me give you four categories of different products that you all have in your home. All of us use this, all us are going to clean the house, hopefully, all of us are going to clean your laundry, all of us are going to clean your dishes. So there’s different categories you need to look at the products and look at the ingredients and know that you are using toxin-free products that are healthy for your family and not that are going to create problems and push your body away from wellness, okay?

First thing you need to do is download the Think Dirty app. It’s really good. You can look up and basically scan the barcodes and it’ll give you a rating on a lot of your different products and stuff on their toxic rating. It’s really good.

Four different categories of products –

1. Household Cleaners

2. Dish Soap

3. Laundry Soap

4.Air Fresheners.

Four categories in the home that are very common to be using products that are normal store-bought products that are full of toxins. Full of things that are going to drive your estrogen and they’re going to disrupt your endocrine system.  So no matter if you are washing your clothes with them, cleaning your dishes with them, your hands with them, or breathing them in…you are exposing yourself and your family to massive amounts of chemical toxins.

So what’s the solution?!

Glad you asked.  I don’t want to go on and on about the conditions that happen from years of exposure to these toxins….honestly I CAN’T go over the conditions.  You can go look all those up.  Look up Xenoestrogens and what they cause and where they are found.  Scary stuff.

Let’s focus on what you can change to help your family live as healthy and happy as possible and to keep your toxic load as low as you possibly can.

The Solution:   THIEVES

We recommend you switch everything to Thieves.  This amazing essential oil blend and collection of infused cleaning products from Young Living is the best thing you can ever do for the health of your family. Now we have:

Thieves hand soap

Thieves dish soap

Thieves household cleaner

Thieves laundry soap.

There’s a whole line of Thieves products that is (A) toxin free, meaning it does not have all of the harmful toxins and the chemicals and the heavy metals in it, (b) it is infused with Thieves essential oil and the different essential oils to support wellness and to help your family live healthier. And BONUS: it smells fantastic!! Yeah, it’s almost like cleaning the floor with it is like running a diffuser.  So instead of spreading toxins with that mop or brush, you are spreading WELLNESS!  SCORE!

What about air fresheners??

Instead of air fresheners that are going to emit toxic chemicals, get a diffuser! Using Thieves or citrus oils…heck ANY essential oil you want, you can use something that smells great and helps with the air freshness itself but is toxin free. That is a big deal. That way you’re again helping get the effect you want but promoting wellness and promoting health. That’s the whole point, because like I told you earlier:  it does you no good to be eating this really good food and spending so much on organic food if you are going to sleep in sheets and breathe air that is completely toxic.

Some people have asked me:  “So do I have to be related to Martha Stewart to make this stuff work??”

The answer is “DEFINITELY NOT!”  My favorite resource for families to have recipes and directions on what to do with their cleaners and what to use at home is from my good friend Melissa Poepping.  She has authored 3 different books full of recipes called “The Chemical Free Home 1, 2, and 3”.  GREAT resources and you can find those books HERE. She’s awesome. So check those out. And she’s got DIY to be able to make your own dish soap, to make your own cleaners, make your own wipes, stuff like that so that you can use essential oils and use the Thieves products and things like that and get the things that are going to make your family healthy.

There you go!  I hope this was helpful. I hope this was something that triggered a few things for you guys.  Providing a healthy home for our families is not that difficult…it’s just a matter of switching out the toxins that we use on a daily basis for ones that aren’t going to destroy their hormones as we use them.   So order your Thieves household cleaner and if you don’t have an account with the company to do that, you can get that set up HERE!  Happy cleaning!
